Joanne Hakaraia

Lecturer

Joanne is a Rongoā Māori practitioner with a small clinic based in Waitakere where she has practiced since 2011. She is also the co-founder of Sisters Indigenous.

She regularly delivers lectures and workshops around the country and has presented at international forums promoting traditional healing.

Joanne has been working with natural medicine since she was a child. She was raised in Otaki, a small rural town with strong affiliation to her marae, it was inevitable that Joanne would hold strong to her roots and teachings of traditional plant medicine. It’s been a part of her life and in her family for generations.

Joanne’s ability to work with traditional plant medicine was brought into balance by a strong and loving grand-mother who encouraged her every day to live her life to the best of her abilities.

Joanne considers the body of Rongoā Māori as a way of life.

“It is a holistic and powerful health system more than a mere system of treating illness. It is a science of life. It offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stay vibrant and healthy while realising their full human potential.”
