Karen is a recent Bachelor of Natural Medicine graduate from SPCNM. She became interested in natural medicine after finally finding some solutions to a chronic health condition from a naturopath whom she visited in her mid-20s. Besides the part time role at College as the Library & Student Support Assistant, Karen is currently in the process of setting up a clinic on the North Shore. Karen’s interests are in the areas of food intolerances and its side effects.
Karen’s work history has been a vast and interesting one. She spent 8 years at ANZ Bank after leaving school, specializing in lending and also did a short stint with Trustbank before having her son, Andrew. Whilst raising her family, Karen worked in a number of administrative and merchandising roles. Karen has also worked in the primary school educational sector, at Sherwood Primary School in Browns Bay, as a teacher aide for children with learning difficulties and other special needs, a carer in the Before and After School Care facility, and finally, as the School Librarian.
Having finished her studies (for now) and, thus, no longer permanently attached to her laptop, Karen is looking forward to rediscovering previous interests – bush walks, nature photography, gardening and making jewellery.
Karen is excited to be helping with the management of the College Library, and is particularly passionate about showing students how to use the the College on-line library in their study and research. As a very recent graduate, Karen is looking forward to supporting students with their study, particularly in the areas of choosing resources, using EndNote, using the on-line databases and basic academic writing and research techniques.
