SPCNM Board of Directors
The SPCNM Board of Directors is responsible to the community, government and its membership as kaitiaki of the SPCNM Incorporated Society. In particular the Board’s role is to uphold the mana and wairua of SPCNM, and its kaupapa as an educational organisation. This is accomplished in part by fostering our values, which are:
- Manākitanga – support, respect and uplifting one another;
- Kaitiakitanga – guardianship and protection of the future of natural medicine, the environment and our people;
- Matauranga – knowledge, wisdom, understanding;
- Aroha – care, love and compassion;
- Mākoha – compassion, gentle consideration, gift;
- Whakawhanaungatanga – working well with others, establishing relationships, kinship.
While the Board’s main function is to support the Chief Executive and their staff in achieving the SPCNM College goals and objectives, the constitution also provides for the Board to invest in other activities in support of its broader mission as a charitable organisation.
SPCNM members are represented on the Board by voting for Directors at the Annual General Meeting, while external Directors are appointed by the Board as needed to ensure an objective mix of expertise at governance level.
Our Vision
Starting off with evening classes in Auckland’s colourful Karangahape Rd in 1979, the founding vision of SPCNM was to develop a respected organisation where teaching and learning could foster generations of practitioners using natural healing arts and sciences for the betterment of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Today the Board aspires to future collaboration between the natural medicine sector, Rongoā Māori and the health system across the motu. This shared knowledge could provide the best of evidence-based, practice-based and cultural taonga for the holistic wellbeing of all in Aotearoa New Zealand, while alleviating pressures on funded primary and secondary healthcare.
Today as the only independent college offering a degree in Natural Medicine, SPCNM is proud of its graduates who spread healing and wellness through their experience of SPCNM research-based teaching and learning.
